Drawing Studies 003 — Drawing from a Line
|Period||2012 — 2014|
|Medium||0.05 pigment liner on 220 gsm paper|
The drawings in this series are based on a rule in which they start by drawing a straight line with a ruler and then attempt to hand-draw a parallel line to it, consecutively. The fact that a slowly hand-drawn line does for imperfections (bumps / small oscillations) makes it so that – in order for the following line to have a consistent distance from it’s previous – the line needs to be drawn in contour of the previous line’s imperfections. This makes for some imperfections to be augmented as the lines are “echoed”, as a kind of ripple. From the build up of these imperfections the drawing gears itself towards a new unexpected form as a whole.
